Ottawa valley pit stop…

On our way to Ottawa from Quebec city we made some pit stops. First in Montreal for a quick coffee, leg stretch and bagel grab. I spent the majority of our time in Montreal perched on a street corner in a phone interview with a Thunder Bay music journalist. It was grand to be amid the hustle bustle of afternoon coffee chats on patios and to hear the music of George Brassens in the bakery I grabbed a tea in.
After we reconvened and piled back into the van we decided to stop in on an old friend in the Ottawa valley. We showed up at the workplace of the fabulous Lyndel Montgomery. I hadn’t seen Lyndel in almost 7 years! The visit resulted in a spontaneous jamboree!

Here are some pics:

Green rooms are rare at this stage of the game and while I wouldn’t necessarily call this a green room, it was nonetheless a lil’ space back stage to pause and gather oneself before performing. These rooms tend to sport the autographs of the folks that have graced the stage that the little room hides behind. Tonight for instance I found the imprint of west coast sensation Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra any very own tour mate Jeff Andrew.

I scanned the walls for more of my friends and artistic acquaintances but to no avail. In amongst the scribbles and obscenities there were but these two familiars.
It’s almost showtime and as I sit at the merch table watching folks finish line checks I am a lil’ sad that I haven’t a sticker to add to the chaos.
I guess that’s the next order of business!

….maybe a sticker design contest?

Turning wheels,

The question…

What do you do after your gig on your one night in Montreal? After you’ve finished your whiskey or beer and packed the van, what would you do?

ANSWER:

20110416-062549.jpg

Why, go for poutine of course! It proved both enjoyable and regrettable, just like that last whiskey. Definitely the perfect end to a rather entertaining evening.

Thank you for a wonderful time, Montreal! The listening ears above burden bearing shoulders, the insight and humor….you know who you are.

You are not the lowest common denominator. 😉

Because the spring…

Because the spring brings the birds, it bears repeating.

“A Common Bird sings, for the dawn as it brings new light to the love she has known.”
