Mama was a little lamb
Papa was a little bird
Every story that you told
Every rumour that you heard
Was true, as the dirt in the ground
Had a little place they hid
Had a little place they’d go
Let the seasons pass them there
Made that place their home
How a secret will grow
They grew a love so true
Grew a love so deep
Had a little dream
Of starting a family
But knew no way to plant the seed
Soon the day did come
A stranger did arrive
Said he knew their troubles
He could help them to make life
But that there would be a price
Stranger tipped his hat
Revealed a brow adorned with horns
Reached out a cloven hoof
Said, “Baby, your first born
Could be the wife of a king”
Now I’ve come of age
The days end with the dawn
He’s gonna take my hand
Lead me where the lights are never on
Where the sun will cease to shine
Go ahead and clip my wings
There ain’t no sky down here
I don’t have the heart to sing
There aint no sky down here
Mama was a little lamb
Papa was a little bird
Every story that you told
Every rumour that you heard
Was true as the dirt in the ground
